"The Samurai-Style Reigning Champion"
Inspired by the anime Mobile Suit Gundam he watched as a child, Yoshihide Muroya set his sights on becoming a pilot. After starting as an aerobatic pilot, he became the first Asian to compete in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in 2009, and in 2017, he achieved his dream of becoming a world champion.
His signature “Samurai Style” involves gripping the control stick with both hands, starting from the pinkies—much like wielding a katana—allowing for more precise control and distinctive, dynamic flying.
In AIR RACE X, Muroya has dominated with three wins and one second-place finish out of four races. Yet he remains driven to push his limits. Through a partnership with LEXUS, he incorporates knowledge from car development into the evolution of his race plane.
Off the track, Muroya enjoys skiing and snowboarding—activities he says resemble reading the wind in the sky—and has recently taken up the guitar, a testament to his ever-curious and challenge-driven nature.
