“Flying Race Planes” to Appear in Future City Osaka – Umekita! New-Era Motorsport “AIR RACE X” Lands in Osaka on Saturday, September 6

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the final round (Round 3) of the 2025 season of the next-generation motorsport AIR RACE X will be held for the first time in Osaka’s Umekita district.

“AIR RACE X 2025 SEKISUI HOUSE OSAKA UMEKITA Digital Race in Grand Green Osaka & Grand Front Osaka.”

This tournament will be held in Osaka at “Grand Green Osaka” and “Grand Front Osaka”, as a unique AR (augmented reality) spectator sports event that combines XR technology with the possibilities of the city. Furthermore, it will be linked as a satellite to the Osaka-Kansai Expo (Yumeshima venue), which is “a testing ground for future societies that the world is watching,” expanding as a new urban race event connecting city, technology, sports, and future society.

The racetrack is designed to fit the actual cityscape, and in the final tournament, aircraft will appear throughout the host city’s streets using XR technology (AR/VR/MR) from the spatial layer platform “STYLY”, allowing spectators to closely enjoy the intense race through their smartphones or tablets.

Ahead of the event, a press conference was held on Tuesday, June 24 at the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka.

Appearing at the event was Yoshihide Muroya, the 2024 Series Champion and pilot for LEXUS PATHFINDER AIR RACING (Japan), who shared the excitement and vision for AIR RACE X and expressed his enthusiasm for the Osaka round.

AIR RACE X is a next-generation aerial motorsport where elite pilots compete under extreme conditions — reaching speeds of up to 400 km/h and enduring forces of up to 12G — testing their precision and speed in the sky.

What sets AIR RACE X apart is its innovative race format and spectator experience powered by cutting-edge technology. Pilots fly in real-time from locations around the world, collecting ultra-precise flight data (with an error margin of just 3cm) using specialized onboard sensors. These flight paths are then recreated in AR as “flying race planes” within the urban space.

Using the XR platform STYLY, spectators in Osaka can view these race planes zooming through the cityscape via their smartphones or tablets — delivering a never-before-seen AR motorsport experience on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Grand Green Osaka and Grand Front Osaka.

As the final event of the 2025 season (Round 3), the tournament will feature head-to-head elimination matches (Quarterfinals to Finals). Combined with previous qualifying results, the overall 2025 Series Champion will be crowned in Osaka.

Sekisui House, one of the nine companies in the Grand Green Osaka development project that advocates “Everything for the people, everything for the future,” resonated with the “challenge to expand possibilities” embodied by AIR RACE X, and it was announced at a press conference that they will become the title partner of this event. This event, held at the timing of the one-year anniversary of the Grand Green Osaka’s preliminary opening, aims to contribute to the excitement of Osaka, where the headquarters is located.

Together with SEKISUI HOUSE, AIR RACE X will showcase a new style of sports viewing that leverages advanced technology and urban design — shaping new experiential value for the society of tomorrow.

This tournament is linked to the Osaka-Kansai Expo (Yumeshima venue), which is “a testing ground for future societies that the world is paying attention to.” A new form of sports viewing called ‘multi-location AR viewing,’ which connects urban space and the Expo, is set to be implemented from Osaka.
